Mr. Akpabio: A Governor or Tyrant? By Ekong Etuk Akpabio addiction - TopicsExpress

Mr. Akpabio: A Governor or Tyrant? By Ekong Etuk Akpabio addiction to anger, rampage, lies, and power has increased support for his ouster. A few months ago, governor Akpabio reportedly said this in a news conference to a group of reporters: “I used my hand to strike out the name of the senator who won the election, and said it is the important for me to give that region a senator in 2007, and I produced Senator Alsoisus Etuk--- senator stand up and take a bow”. And soon after that story broke out, a Nigerian newspaper reported anger among Nigerians calling for governor Akpabio and Senator Alsoisus Etuk removal from power. This kind of public display of power can only speak to a man filled with anger and outrage over his oppositions. Despite this outrageous statement, Mr. Akpabio continues to stay in power. Also, there is at least one good reason to believe governor Akpabio was going sponsor a brawl against governor Amachi after the candidate he was asked to get elected lost election in Nigeria governors’ forum race. We learned from a news report that after the election result showed Akpabio camp losing by 16 to19 to governor Amachi, governor Akpabio said this to newspaper reporters “we are rejecting the result, with allegation that the election was rigged”. He further claimed that ballot papers were not serialized and that Mr. Amachi did not step down prior to election. The outcome of that elections showed Akpabio was badly wounded. His skill and honesty were called into questions. Why did he hold election without knowing he has the vote to get his man elected? He went ahead because he thought his success in stealing elections in Akwa Ibom State was going to repeat itself at the national level. And thank God he failed woefully. Now, everybody in Nigeria knows how Akpabio became governor of Akwa Ibom State. How do you reconcile his outrage to election loss with what he did when he knowingly denied a winner of senatorial election in Akwa Ibom state to someone who did not win? Once again, it speaks badly to his mental status, and it continues to raise questions about his fitness as governor of Akwa Ibom state. How much longer can the people of Akwa Ibom hold their patient in the midst of horrible crimes committed against fellow Akwa Ibom man by Governor Akpabio? This past few days we read a Nation editorial written by Bakar D’Sallah, which said this in part “According to newspaper reports, plain clothed security men barricaded the former SSG’s office, moved from one office to the other, locked the doors and checked the hand bags of staff of the office before ordering them to leave. Umana’s crime, as defined by Akpabio, was the former’s’ effrontery’ in declaring his ambition to govern the state in 2015.” In view of Akpabio past history of rampage, anger, power hungry, who is surprised about the above behavior? Since governor Akpabio became the governor of Akwa Ibom state through 2006 fraudulent election, which I might add, resulted in him becoming governor through crooked means, we had witnessed the following: First, he went after Ambassador Sam Edem, accusing him of attempted assassination, all in attempt to make sure all headlines coming out of Akwa Ibom state is about him. Second, when he became aware that senator James Akpanudoedehe was getting more headlines than him, he accused Senator James Akpanudoedehe of treason to get rid of him. Third, and recently, when he became aware for the past few months that Umanna Okon Umanna was getting most headlines from Akwa Ibom state, he sponsored thugs as reported above to eliminate him. Akwa Ibom State is a state reserved for people who live within the rule of law. By all indications and evidence available to public, it appears Mr. Akpabio does understand the culture of Akwa Ibom State. But believe me; we now have overwhelming evidence to end his reign of terror.
