Bouwens decided to change his name and the band changed its name. He became George Baker, and the band became the George Baker Selection. Their biggest hit came in 1970, but gained a wider popularity in 1992 when it was included in the opening credits of a directors debut film. During his career that lasted from 1939 to 1954 he was a world’s top middle distance runner, excelling in distances from 1500 to 5000 metres. He participated in the 1948 and 1952 Summer Olympics, winning only bronze in the 1500 and 5000 meter races at the 1948 Games in London.
