My English teacher (a Whovian) is putting on a DVD of a performance of ‘The Winters Tale’, the Shakespearian play we’re studying. Me: Sir, couldn’t we have done Hamlet? Or Richard II? Sir: Well I have to admit I love Hamlet. Me: For one it’s a good play…for another you could show us the version with David Tennant… Sir: Now, you know I can’t choose texts just because we like them and because David Tennant has acted in them. Me: Why not! Sir: Because, more than anything, if I showed you a production with David Tennant in it I would be obsessing just as much as you and we’d never get any work done. Now we’re complaining about the overacting-this performance is rife with it! ~Type40
