My Top 10 Influential music artists/albums, per Jasmine Magana! 10. Amon Amarth. Why?: Because the harmonic flow in their songs, especially in the older albums, drove my love for death metal to another realm. Those sounds immersed you into the battle in which they sang about 9. Boston. Why?: Because its freakin Boston. Besides that point, many of their melodies are some of those memorable and feel-worthy. Them melodies have more meaning that most lyrics in todays mainstream music. 8. Ensiferum. Why?: Ensiferum was one of the bands that opened my eyes to the folk metal genre. Especially during the Jari Mäenpää days. Ferrum Aeternum is such a soothing and pump-up song, even though it doesnt seem like it would be. Much of my musical influence comes from them. 7. Megadeth. Why?: One of the Big 4. Dave Mustaines lyrical work on a lot of his songs hit home. In My Darkest Hour is one of my top 5 songs of all time. Marty Friedmans guitar work on those older albums are an influence to almost anyone who touches a guitar. 6. Behemoth. Why?: I have a soft spot in my heart for the heavy, Egyptian sounding riffs. Behemoths aggressiveness drives a lot of what I write. 5. Death. Why?: Chucks innovative song work laid down the blueprint to a genre that continues to bring influence to me. Spirit Crushers moment just gets you riled up and wanting to go crazy. Yall know which part talking about. Crystal Mountain is also one of my favorite songs. Deaths songs in general are another major influence in my song writing, and the songs just hit like a hammer when those riffs kick in man. 4. Los Bukis. Why?: I grew up listening to them. I became a lefty because I picked up a toy guitar every time the Bukis came on at home and started air playing when I was like 3. So you can thank the Bukis as to why Im left handed instrumentally. 3. System of a Down. Why?: S.O.A.D was the band that really got me into the heavier side of rock and into the path of metal. They are a group of eccentric musicians that have influenced more people than those people let on. They are a lot heavier than what people tend to give them credit for. I can say that I might not have dwelled into the music I listen to if it werent for System of a Down. 2. Wintersun. Why?: The discovery of Jaris project brought a whole new world of melodic metal into my life. The fusion of folk, classical, death metal, melodies, virtuoso instrumental abilities, clean and death metal vocals. The perfect blend of music. It was enough to where their first album in 8 years brought tears to my eyes when I first popped in the album and heard the amazing intro from Time. It was finally there. An amazing group of talented and music-loving musicians. The key influence of my guitar playing, and with songs that can calm me down, pump me up, emotionally drive me. Such a small catalog of songs made a huge impact. Wintersun is one of a kind in todays world. 1. Mozart/Vivaldi/Tchaikovsky/various Classical artists. Why?: Roots of most modern music. A lot of metal has adopted the classical roots, as I have as well, and makes for a beautiful fused array of musical eargasms. The beauty of classical music is unmatched. The feeling and emotion behind classical music cannot be replicated. Music that is hundreds of years old puts most music nowadays to shame. If it wasnt for these artists of those times, much of todays music wouldnt exist. And this music will live on forever.
