My answer: He didnt live today. He could have been just about OK for his time. You dont have to be perfectly suitable for your environment to survive. You just have to have offsprings and give them a fair chance of surviving. As far as evolution is concerned, your life is not interesting. It can be quite a misery / struggle / blow to the face, and youd still make it if you hold on long enough to have kids that will hold on long enough to have kids etc... And if you dont, too bad, someone else will... People used to have as many children as they could to try and make sure enough of them survived. Doesnt really sound like a perfect fit for purpose to me...
