My baby boy has turned 10 months old. Hes getting bigger, stronger, faster....(Old Skool reference for those who remember 6 million dollar man). Hes got 8 teeth in his mouth and LOVES using them. His 1st words are Da Da (much to the delight of his daddy). Hes funny in that hes LOUD at home, but when he gets out in public, he is as quiet as a church mouse. Hes very watchful and if he doesnt know you, hes very cautious. He would check you out before he allows you in his space. Hes pulls up on any and everything (wall, chair, my leg, couch, etc.) Jabari is a busy body. On a serious note, when I am out with Jabari, other folks often comment on how cute he is. I find this a bit disingenuous because when hes 14 or 15 yrs old, many of them will see my son in a different light (thug, criminal, ignorant, sub human, etc.). You rarely hear others talk about how good looking a Black teenagers are or how intelligent they are. Its amazing how all babies are so cute, but when black babies turn into Black males to Black men, they become more dangerous and more terrorizing. I love my son, but in todays society, I cant help to think about all the dangers he will have to deal with. I am enjoying my experience with my child, but I will not sugar coat anything that is going on and he will not ALL that I know and then some......
