My content analysis of a Kenyan news report I have just read - TopicsExpress

My content analysis of a Kenyan news report I have just read the story of the AP who killed himself after shooting four others - as reported in three local newspapers. I started by reading the Nation and the story didnt make sense so I decided to pick other newspapers to compare the writing. On a scale of 1-10, this is how I will score the following papers: Clarity (especially the intro) - Nation (2), Standard (8), Star (5) Flow of the story - Nation (3), Standard (8), Star (6) Details - Nation (4), Standard (9), Star (4) Use of extra news sources - Nation (4), Standard (10), Star (4) Creativity in use of photos and quality - Nation (4), Standard (6), Star (0) Headline - Nation (8), Standard (5), Star (3) I noticed that the articles in the Nation and Star are almost similar. The Standard writer took extra effort to get more sources apart from Joshua Chepchieng - the Butere sub-county Deputy Commissioner. The Star and Nation reports do not tell us that there was a meeting between the killer officer and his colleagues to try and resolve the feud. The Standard writer gives that detail and it helps make the story much clearer. The Star headline says officer kills five, shots himself. Meaning six people died? The other two headlines show that 5 people died (including the officer). I like that the Standard writer tells us that the killer officer used to guard the home of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. What are your thoughts?
