My daughters had movie night with Girl Scouts in my old elementary - TopicsExpress

My daughters had movie night with Girl Scouts in my old elementary school tonight. It was closed down years ago and is now an administrative building. Its kind of eerie what has remained the same. The old scoreboard, the basketball hoop and stage (Fifty, nifty United States from the original thirteen colonies....a song that I remember singing in that gym at maybe 5, 6, or 7 years old), the walled up door that was the entrance to the cafeteria, the green tiles that lined the halls, and the fold away wall storage for the tables and benches for lunch....making our gym a cafeteria at lunch time. Strangely enough, the tables and benches are still that gnarly 70s-80s putrid green. The vestibule still has the same tile and plaques that I remember 35 years ago. The playgrounds that are absent now....yet I can remember the placement of the swings and the slides that would be lava hot when the sun beat down on them. I remember the fire department test signal on Tuesdays, and you had to crouch down....you know, cuz it was the cootie bell, and if you were caught standing, you were an outcast. I also remember that our mascot was the little devils....something pretty much unacceptable by todays standards. Even the smell of the building was the same. Good memories at the old Oak Hill Elementary on a Friday night with my elementary school-aged daughters.....I laid with them on that old gym floor and watched movies....there are no words. :)
