My dear friend and former law partner has died, and it is a very sad time for me and for all those who knew Wayne K. Curry. I have known Wayne since his school days, when his parents fought to make sure that their children would be properly educated in a desegregated school system in Prince George’s County. That grit and determination demonstrated by his parents were seeds that were planted early in Wayne’s persona. Wayne was the most brilliant, enterprising and visionary person I have ever known. He worked during the day and attended law school at night. He graduated with honors and I do not recall any law school graduate who was more in demand by the law firms in Prince George’s County, than Wayne Curry. I was fortunate to have him join me as a law partner for almost 15 years, and the friendship and bond that we had grew even more during all of the years we practiced law together. Wayne demanded nothing but greatness from himself and those around him. Though he was an extremely successful lawyer and businessman, he always had the unyielding desire to help direct his beloved county to bigger and brighter horizons, and provide opportunities for others to share in the untapped treasure of Prince George’s County. As County Executive, his successes were unmatched. His love for Prince George’s County was only overshadowed by his love for his wife and children. In the same way Wayne’s parent’s planted the seeds of leadership responsibility and activism in him, so many of Wayne’s Prince George’s County extended family of county residents, business leaders and lawyers, have learned from him, benefited from his leadership and have been trained to follow the legacy he has established. Prince George’s County has lost a great advocate and leader, and I have lost my good friend. All of us at Shipley & Horne P.A. offer our sincerest condolences to the Curry family and we are praying for his family and for all who share in this loss. Russell W. Shipley
