My dear friends, students, and colleagues, After some serious deliberation, I have decided not to proceed with my theater company and playspace. There has been a lot of speculation and rumor surrounding my recent endeavors, none of which are true. The purpose of this endeavor was to give students the knowledge and opportunity to bring theater education to at-risk children throughout the local community. Somewhere along the line, that got twisted into something that it is not. I love the Frederick Arts Community. I grew up here; I became an artist here; I learned that I was a teacher here. Before this company drives too much of a wedge between me and my former colleagues, friends, and students, I want to stop. I will revisit this idea sometime in the future, and I am so excited by what this can be, maybe here or even in another part of the world. I am hoping to relocate out West, to Northern California, Colorado, or Oregon. Before I go, I hope to proceed with the Summer Stock that is already scheduled. I would love to work with anyone that’s interested. I wish everyone the best of luck, and I hope that someday we will reconnect to create something similar. Remember that art can be a tool for change. I hope that all of my students continue to use their art to implement change in the world. -J
