My first novel was a zero originality work that mixed together - TopicsExpress

My first novel was a zero originality work that mixed together many elements copied from many different sources. Its primary inspirations were Tenkuu no Escaflowne, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Lord of the Rings. It had magic giant robots, magic ninja-bards, a mysterious time traveling mentor (actually, I guess that guys character design had some originality) and a prophecy about a war against an unstoppable enemy. That opening theme song tore me away when I first heard it, like I wasnt there anymore. Maybe it was also the mood I was in--college and sleep deprived and all, and sometimes things affect you more when youre young, but I heard Yakusoku Wairanai sung by Maaya Sakamoto and I was taken away. When I read the translation for the lyrics, I was even more affected--its such a hopeful sounding song, but the lyrics are softly sad, of lovers who may never meet again. Spoiler for Murakamis Colorless Tsukuru. | | | | | | V Its also that endless moment that waits at the end of Colorless Tsukuru, which is partly why I thought of this song. That moment of holding ones breath, not knowing if ones deepest desires will be met or lost forever, eternal. Its a great ending. Murakami books are always Murakami books. I love them, even now that every one I read is like slipping into a familiar coat or a well-worn pair of shoes. The characters and places and themes are always familiar, and I never get tired of them anyway. #murakami #writing #escaflowne https://youtube/watch?v=Vr5JQWVeoYo
