My yearly drum beating for those who are not yet tired or deaf of my daily dose:-) I hope this mail finds you in the best of health and spirit. This is just to say thank you for your continuous support and unbridled good wishes and encouragement that I was fortunate to receive throughout and the year 2014 was no exception. Academically it was gratifying with a few accomplishments on my personal front. I reached 100 publication mark this year! Wish I could learn Dermatology sitting at her feet as a student throughout my life. When I started my journey in Dermatology a couple of decades back I could never imagine this to happen even in my wildest dream. Being a non-teaching private consultant myself who is entirely engaged in full time private practice publishing in academics was(and is) always a challenge. But, thanks to my inherent lunacy , continued encouragement from my family , friends, well wishers and teachers I reached this milestone. I was not aware that I was so close as I never looked up to the summit. I just watched footsteps of my seniors and watched my next step. Thats it. I hope our children will someday understand this. I was conferred upon Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow(MRCPS) in June this year by President Dr. Francis G Dunn of the college . The trip to London-Bolton-Kilmarnock-Glasgow-Edinburgh with my wife was a high point of this year. After Glasgow it was from Edinburgh! Scotland got me for sure! Became FRCP (Edin). The news reached me in early August this year. I will have to attend the new fellows day in June 2015. Several overseas academic invitations reached me this year. The invitation to chair/co-chair a session and speak in our next World Congress at Vancouver in 2015 was a pleasant news but nothing unexpected as I was fortunate to receive the same honor twice in last teo world congresses in Buenos Aires(2007) and Seoul(2011). Invitation as a faculty in EADV Amsterdam 2014 was nice but this is another honor which I have received in the past. But I was overwhelmed with two unexpected invitations. One was from Munich International Summer Academy (2015) and the other one from the American Academy of Dermatology (2015) at San Francisco. Attending my first meeting as one of the members of the Board of Directors of International Society of Dermatology in Denver, USA in March was a great experience. Our relentless campaign in sensitizing common people and the government agencies got a huge impetus when the IADVL Task force against Topical Steroid Abuse (ITATSA) was formed. The responsibility of the first chairperson was bestowed on my shoulder. I hope to take this movement to a logical conclusion. We could bring out each and every issue of our journal, Indian Journal of Dermatology(IJD®) well ahead of time. All the vital publication indicators like SCImago Journal ranking, cites per doc, total cites, total citable documents and the percentage of cited documents continued to show a very healthy and steady upward swing. We are happy that in terms of percentage of cited documents and citable documents in 2013 IJD has surpassed all other Dermatology Journals published from India. This was possible only because of our excellent authors, erudite reviewers, responsible editorial board members, efficient publisher and attentive readers. Some family visits to the hills made the year memorable. We could touch our favourite Darjeeling twice this year. In addition to these like previous years in 2014 personally I could visit some places both in and out of the country, visiting Ajanta and Ellora with my mom and emom and also visiting Bhimbetka rock shelters with prehistoric paintings from 30000 BC were truly unforgettable. Going to Amritsar and visiting the Golden temple was also exciting. I could meet old friends and make some new ones and click some images and write some travelogues and short stories. The collection of my travelogues নি:সীমানার বেড়া Ni:Seemanar Bera(Frontiers of Infinity) was released in a famous book store in front of my friends, relatives and well wishers. Celebrated author Buddhadev Guha inaugurated the book in front of some luminaries from different fields. This was undoubtedly one of the high points of the year for me, personally. Like previous years we could organize the annual free skin camp at Burdwan commemorating Dr. Bhabesh Chandra Lahiri. Actually this was an expression of indebtedness. To my father and to the hundreds and thousands of nameless individuals who for generations bestowed their faith on us for their dermtological problems. This was a humble gesture to express our deep gratitude to all of them. Meeting long lost school friends after 32 years by organizing the first ever school batchmates reunion was the best way the year could come to a concluding and culminating point. In short the year 2014 was one of the most fulfilling year for me till now. It has made me more humble, grateful and aware of my responsibilities and commitments. Have a relaxing holiday and great year ahead. All the best to you and your family.
