MyComplicatedLoveStory Episode 51 My Homies They say money can’t buy happiness but who wouldn’t be happy if he/she is given 100 Million dollars? That’s a question you should think about before joining them to say that. *** I stared at the man with full attention after he mentioned the 100 dollars fee for helping him, I quickly did a rough mental Calculation and converted the money to Naira, I came up with about 15,000 Naira; ‘this is a good pay for just helping someone to count his money o’, I thought. But being a fully breed Lagosian has taught me something; You can’t get anything for free in Lagos, and although I was being paid for a service I was about to render to this man, something didn’t just feel right about the whole thing, so I decided to give it a second thought, and that’s when the ‘419ners’ fûcked up. I stood at the bus stop with the so called Malaysian man, thinking and weighing my options when someone else who the whole thing doesn’t concern came to my side and asked; ‘what’s the man asking you for?’ Any confirmed Lagosian would know that, this whole thing was a set up, because no one cares about your well being on the road. You can be kidnapped right in front of a busy market and nobody would move an inch to help you. So when this other man came and asked what was happening I concluded it was a scam, but to be sure I just played along and told him what the Malaysia man told me and can you guess his foolish reply?. ‘Person dey offer you free 15k and you dey think am? Abeg make we dey go jhur!’ At this point I wanted to laugh so badly at the who foolishness of this petite scam; ‘Nawa o, So all this people never still learn how to scam sha’ I thought to myself as I just sighed and walked away. Luckily for me, a bus heading my direction finally stopped at my front and without much thinking I jumped in and told them; ‘Adiós learners!’ una no sabi anything!’ Adiós means farewell or bye-bye in Spanish. Momentarily, I was dropped at the Jakande Estate main Gate and since I wasn’t going home, I made a few calls to my friends who stayed around but they all didn’t pick or weren’t around, so I was left with the hotel option and that’s when I faced a little problem. I hadn’t enough money on me to pay for a hotel, and there wasn’t an ATM machine anywhere close by. As I said earlier, it was a little problem with more than one solution, but I took the less risky option. I boarded a bike from where I stood to the nearest ATM machine, then headed to the nearest and cheapest hotel around, after settling the bill with the bike man I majestically walked into the hotel and paid for a night. If you are expecting something dramatic or worth writing to happen in the hotel, sorry to disappoint you because nothing happened, as a matter of fact my whole plan went smoothly and by noon the next day I was home already. *** A steady knocking at the door rouses me from a deep sleep. I glanced over at the clock and see that it’s nearly 1pm. I was still wrapped up in bed with my blanket covering me. That was the first night in a long while that I had slept the whole night through. Normally, Uche, Tayo or the fact that I had morning lectures would have made me wake up really early. ‘shey na only me dey dis house self? Why nobody don go check who dey door Na?’ I pondered. There was another heavy knock at the door and I reluctantly hauled myself out of bed to see who wanted to literally break my door. I checked all the rooms in the house and discovered I was home alone. I just sighed, and murmured ‘Home sweet home’ as I opened the door. ‘Guy you dey mad oh, You deaf we you no hear say I dey knock since last century?’ Dominic said as he walked past me, and headed straight to my bedroom without me even saying a word. I just smiled and followed suite. Dominic is just one of my closest male friends, we go far back in time, and have been friends right from when we were good boys. Since he schools at UNILAG he usually comes home quite often unlike me who goes home twice a year. All I’ ll say about his description is that he has pink lips, a muscular body frame and he is quite rich, so you can imagine how girls would be on his neck, but strangely he is single. Why you may want to ask? Well that’s a story for another day. ‘Guy how far Na?’ I asked Dominic as I joined him in my room. ‘I dey oh, you no know say you go call me say you dey come Lag shey?’ he asked straight up. And that brought about a good question; ‘how you take know say I don land?’ I asked really curious because I had been indoors since my arrival. ‘I put camera for your room Na, idiöt’ He replied cursing me. ‘monkey! Sha wetin dey happen na?’ I asked because with Dominic, something is always happening. ‘oya rush go bath, make we commot’ ‘commot go where?’ ‘One of our guy dey throw bash for area this night, make we go help am arrange the thing’ I told you!… Something is always happening when it comes to Dominic. ‘Oya, give me few minutes’ I replied.
