NABTEB releases May/June exams results BENIN CITY – The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the result for the May/June NABTEB Examinations. Registrar of the Board, Dr. Olatunde Aworanti who announced the release to newsmen in Benin City yesterday disclosed that out of the 103,753 candidates that sat for the examinations, only 28,230 representing 27.2 per cent obtained passes at credit level in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics. According to him, a total of 55,115 candidates, representing 53.1 per cent passed five subjects at credit level with or without mathematics or English Language. He said the overall performance indices showed that of the total number of candidates that sat for the examinations, only 13,347 representing 12.9 per cent were certified as craftsmen. Dr. Aworanti also disclosed that the candidates enrolled in 36 trades, five trade related subjects and eight general education subjects. The highest enrollment, he said was in Book Keeping with a total of 78,897 candidates while the lowest enrolment was recorded in Machine Woodworks and photographic practices with one candidate each. He lamented that in spite of concerted efforts by government and other stakeholders to accord technical and vocational education, the status it deserves, peoples attitude towards it falls short of expectation. According to him, for sustainable growth and national development, greater attention has to be given to technical and vocational education. He therefore called on the National and State Houses of Assembly to legislate on the establishment of modern and well equipped technical colleges in all the local government areas in Nigeria.’
