NAIJ READERS REPORT (submitted by our reader Balekan): I am a soldier of Nigeria Army. I went to Maiduguri, Borno State, in 2012 and came back home this year (2014). Soldiers are treated very badly. No good-quality food, lack of water, allowances are dealyed or not paid at all. For instance, I receive 49k montlhy. The camouflage kit is 15k, a pair of boots is 12k, and these uniforms dont last long because of the harsh weather and overall conditions. Most of our families depend on us but we cannot take care of them properly. For those who have wife and kids its very tough because everyone has to eat and there is close to no money left to save. Many wives of my deceased colleagues have been evicted from the barracks they previously occupied. Please, Im begging Goodluck Jonathan, Defence Headquarters to notice what hardships we, average Nigerian soldiers, have to endure just because we love our country! The way were being treated is demoralizing, soon no one would want to sacrifice their lives for this country!
