NANDINI VALLI MUTIAH (Chennai, India, 1976) Nandini Valli Muthiah has rapidly emerged as a key figure in Indian photography. Her work blends established traditions with a cinematic and hyper-real sensibility. Nandini’s images subvert traditional ideas of the heroic or Godly in popular Indian art by capturing them in modern day settings. Her images of Krishna, from the Definitive Reincarnate series, show the blue God in a sequence of stylized and tightly choreographed tableaus that tread the line between high kitsch and delicate pathos. Nandini is represented by the Sakshi gallery in Mumbai. She lives and works in Chennai.
