NBU exams rescheduled for polls OUR CORRESPONDENT Siliguri, April 16: North Bengal University (NBU) today decided to reschedule all its undergraduate exams (BA, BSc and BCom Parts I, II and III) in view of the May 18 panchayat elections in the region. According to the original schedule, declared about one-and-a-half- months back, the undergraduate exams were to begin today and conclude on June 18. The Part I tests commenced today. “We have decided to split the exams into two phases,” said NBU vice- chancellor Arunava Basumajumdar. “The first phase began today and will continue till May 7. The second phase will start from May 26. The new schedule will be circulated to the colleges soon.” Acting controller of examinations Debashis Dutta said his office is holding onto the official communication to the colleges, as the university is yet to receive a government notification on the elections. “We came to know of the elections through the media. According to procedure, we have to wait for the government notification before announcing the rescheduled calendar. We took the decision today because the rescheduling looks inevitable. The notification should arrive within the next four-five days,” the controller of exams added. Dutta said the BEd exams, originally scheduled to be held from May 5, would also be postponed. About 60,000 students are taking the Parts I, II and III exams.
