NC welcomes Omar’s response to Shopian incident “Demand exemplary punishment to whosoever is found guilty” Srinagar September 13th 2013 : The National Conference today welcomed the decision of the state Cabinet under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to replace the CRPF personnel at gagran camp with a contingent of the J&K Armed Police calling it a ‘right step at the right time’.In a joint statement by Provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Central Secretary Mehboob Beg, Member Parliament Sharif-u-din Shariq, Vice President Kashmir province Syed Abdul Rashid, MLC’s Dr. Bashir Veeri, Showkat Ganie, Ab. Majid Laram, besides senior party leaders Gh. Nabi Niloora, Shabir Kullay, Dr. Shafi, Iftikhar Misgar, the party leaders said that the unanimous cabinet decision to remove the CRPF camp at Gagran, Shopian, is a step in the right direction. The decision taken under the leadership of the chief minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, addresses the concerns and grievances of the people of Gagran. This testifies to the responsiveness and quick response of the government of Jammu and Kashmir. It also demonstrates resolve on part of the government to not to allow the repetition of the sad incident like the one that happened at Gagran. The statement while expressing grave concern demanded exemplary punishment to whosoever is found guilty and asked the government to provide ex-gratia to the family of the deceased. They added that the government of Jammu and Kashmir led by Omar Abdullah is committed to ensure the welfare and security of the people of the state. They party leaders also appreciated the decision of the Cabinet directing the Police authorities to determine the facts of the case, including the identity of the deceased person, within the next 48 hours thereafter a judicial enquiry in case the facts are not established. While hitting at PDP, and other parties who are politicising the incident the leaders said that at they are known for being the architect of the 2008 agitation and are trying to put fuel in the fire. They said the PDP leadership owe an explanation to the people of the state and the country as to why for their petty political ends and for their petty political gains they were playing to the public sentiments and creating situations having potential to put the public peace in jeopardy. Meanwhile The National Conference leaders appealed to the people in general and political, social and religious organisations in particular to exercise maximum restraint and work for restoring peace in the area on immediate basis “We should not allow ourselves to get swayed by emotions and provocations of elements inimical to peace and maintain the brotherhood and amity at all costs”, they pledged.
