NEW COMMUNITY CENTER AND MISSION DEDICATION WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2014 THE HOPE AND A PRAYER CENTER BY THE SEA 25-17 Seagirt Avenue, Far Rockaway, NY With SMP Vicar Tom Cusanelli, Local Leaders Catherine Molyneux and Sharon Sessing, I am grateful to God for bringing about, after two years of sojourning, the dedication of The Hope and A Prayer Center By The Sea just a block from the ocean in Far Rockaway. Since Superstorm Sandy, we have remained a constant presence at PS/IS 43, “The School By the Sea,” and have brought resources to bear for those still dramatically affected by the results of the storm. This summer a Vacation Bible School and an End-of-Summer Party and Blessing on the Beach brought joy to children and families in Far Rockaway. The donations of so many and the fine partnership with LC-MS Disaster Response have kept us going right on through the renovation of the site. But there is much to do as we prepare to open our doors to the community. The need is great: Vicar Cusanelli, Atlantic District Sandy Recovery Coordinator, went to the site recently to check on the construction progress at the Center. As he approached, he overheard a woman say to her two little children, They are putting a church there. The hooligans in this neighborhood need to get saved. So the word is out on the street that we are going to be there and the Gospel will be spread! So first of all, please PRAY for us as we engage a tough neighborhood with a powerful Lord! Include the Hope and a Prayer Center in your congregation’s weekly and your personal prayers. Beyond your prayers, your PRESENCE would be deeply appreciated. We need volunteers for service projects and will be looking for evening volunteers as programs begin later in the fall. Thirdly, your FINANCIAL AND RESOURCE SUPPORT is needed. Here’s how we can work together to bring this mission and ministry center to hit the ground running: If you are interested in naming the Center through a generous donation of $100,000, or would like to make a special gift of one months rent = $5,000, half a year =$30,000, or a full years rent = $60,000, please call 914-337-5700 x 2 and leave a message for me with Kristen Schulz. There are, of course, many other ways to participate. Here’s what’s needed to complete and furnish the Center: 3 desks (for 2 offices and a reception area) @ $250 each 3 desk chairs @$150 each 2 file cabinets @ 100 each 2 chairs for office visitors @$100 each Conference table & 8 chairs @$1000 15 folding chairs @$40 each 3 folding tables @ $50 each 2 waiting room chairs and waiting room bench @$300 A Phone system of 5 sets @$3000 alarm and surveillance system @$1500 3 Book Shelves @$150 each 8 computers (2 offices, reception, conference room, 4 in great room) @$500 each 3 computer printers @$250 each Smart board in conference room @$4500 two flat screen televisions (1reception area, 1 in great room) @$1000 each Copy machine with fax and scanning ability Lease @$2000 per year If you would like to make a gift of one or more of these items, please contact me at dhbad@aol, Vicar Cusanelli, at adsandyrecovery@gmail, and put “Hope and Prayer Wish List” in the subject portion of the email, or contact me by phone for further assistance.
