NEW DELHI: A gang of six robbers barged into a property dealers house on Wednesday evening holding his family hostage for about an hour before looting cash and gold worth around Rs 1 crore. One of them was allegedly carrying an improvised rifle, which the cops suspect could be a Munger-made carbine. Police suspect the role of a household help who has been missing since the incident. The victim owns a construction business in Noida. The incident was reported from Block-33 of Jasola Vihar around 6pm when Jyoti Bhatia (55) was at home with his wife and elderly mother. The robbers barged into the house and held him at gunpoint. They asked me to hand over the keys to my locker and ransacked the house, said Bhatia in his police statement. There was Rs 25 lakh in cash and few kilograms of gold and silver in the locker. Police said that Bhatia had kept the cash and gold at his house as his son had got married a fortnight ago and gone for honeymoon. He had planned to deposit the money in the bank next week once he came back. The family had moved into the house six months ago and had employed the domestic help then. They did not verify the helps antecedents as he was referred by an associate of Bhatia. The robbers left after locking Bhatia and his family in a room. When he raised an alarm, a maid opened the door and set them free. Bhatia then informed his neighbour, the area councilor, who informed the police. Police have recovered the CCTV footage from the localitys gate and are trying to identify the criminals who had come in a car. Cops are now trying to trace Bhatias associate who had referred the help.
