NEW EXHIBITION, opened yesterday in Sharjah, Ancient Bahrain: The Power of Trade at the Sharjah Archaeology Museum. The exhibition is on until 29 March 2015, organised by the Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) in partnership with the Bahrain National Museum as part of the city of Sharjah’s role as 2014 Capital of Islamic Culture, and Manama’s celebrations as Capital of Asian Tourism. gulftoday.ae/portal/48ca2be2-5287-4511-a02c-b34e11ffcffc.aspx The exhibition highlights the Dilmun civilisation, dating from second millennium BC to third century AD. Dilmun was an important trading centre which at the height of its power controlled the Persian Gulf trading routes. The Sumerians regarded Dilmun as holy land. The following photographs (by Ciacho5 on Wikipedia) are some of the many artefacts from Dilmun in the Bahrain National Museum, including the copper head of a bull, a mass grave and seals typical of the area and period.
