NEW FERRENTS!!! HERE ARE A FEW TIPS TO GET YOU STARTED ON YOUR FABULOUS NEW JOURNEY: 1) Never stop researching. Whether it be best diet, new toys, common diseases, etc. Always take an opportunity to learn. 2) As soon as possible, set up a fund for vet care. Ferrets are prone to certain illnesses/diseases (see 1st tip) and find the nearest vet that treats them. Call and ask questions and put them in speed dial. This should include an ER vet that specializes in exotics or one that will be willing to help in crisis even if they dont normally see them, 3) bathing is not necessary ESP with soap. It dries the skin when you use soaps and makes them smell worse. Some ferrets love water and warm water alone will not cause issue. 4) Diet is important. Be diligent in learning what foods are best and in your dynamic to feed. If raw is not an option, try to find the best kibble available that you can afford. Do not let them tempt you into bad treats; we all like stuff that isnt good for us, but even small quantities of things ferrets arent supposed to have, can be deadly; and 5) This is a really important one. You CHOSE to bring a new life into your home. Make sure you treat it with the respect he/she deserves. You are their everything and they need you for playtime, cuddles, interaction, and their basic daily needs. If anyone has anything to add, please do so.
