NEW PORTRAITS ADDED TO THE RSM LIBRARY DIGITISED PORTRAITS COLLECTION Sir Anthony Carlisle [1768-1840] was "born near Durham and studied in London under Hunter, Baillie and Cruikshank. He became surgeon to the Westminster Hospital in 1793 and retained the post for 47 years. He was elected FRS in 1804 and was Professor of Anatomy to the Royal Academy of Arts from 1808 to 1825. He was Professor of Anatomy, Physiology and Surgery at the College of Surgeons and then became President in 1828 and 1837. He was also Surgeon Extraordinary to the Prince Regent, as well as being the author of numerous works and papers."
