NEWS that ANC veteran Pallo Jordan resigned from Parliament and the national executive committee (NEC) of the ANC following revelations that he may have misrepresented his academic qualifications, has been met with shock. The ANC veteran has apologised to the party and South Africa as a whole since going to ground after newspaper reports about his false qualifications emerged. KZN political commentator Protas Madlala said: “I think it shattered us all. We had a tremendous respect for Jordan’s intellectual capability and insightful thinking. “It is sad that he never declared this earlier. But at least he has resigned. Many people would have given a hundred excuses. He did the right thing. I was surprised that he resigned from the ANC NEC.” IFP MP Narend Singh said Jordan’s resignation was “most unfortunate.” “Pallo Jordan was a bright and astute politician. Sadly his integrity has been put to the test, but he has done an honourable thing by stepping down.” The DA’s Haniff Hoosen said Jordan had made a massive contribution to South African politics and was well respected. “This proves that we are all human and make mistakes. I admire the fact that he has owned up to his mistakes and apologised.” KZN Human Settlements MEC, Ravi Pillay said: “His apology and resignation is in line with the calibre of the man I have known since the early 1990s.’’ Magdalene Moonsamy of the EFF said she respected Jordan’s decision to resign.
