NPR interviewed a gentleman this morning, a Muslim, whose name escapes me. When asked if he, as a Muslim, condemned the actions taken recently in France, he responded in a way that I thought was very enlightened, and destructive of the simple narrative that tends to permeate the media. He said that it was not his responsibility to condemn their actions, just as if (my words here since I cant quote precisely) an Italian person had committed an atrocity, it would not be the responsibility of all Italians to condemn their actions. If there is a cure to this kind of behavior, I think it lies within the framework of understanding offered by science. Not the periodic table, but the wisdom that teaches us of our commonality, our shared creation and development in a universe where our hubris has no place. To that end, and to our brethren Muslims, here are some words that express that idea better than I ever could. Perhaps this understanding offers a way home. https://youtube/watch?v=UddbD2-3fb4
