National Jewish Organizations Mourn Death of Lloyd Dinkelspiel May 18, 1959 NEW YORK (May. 17) National Jewish organizations here today mourned the death of LIoyd W. Dinkelspiel, prominent American Jewish leader who died this weekend at his home in San Francisco after a brief illness, at the age of 59. He was president of the National Jewish Welfare Board, vice-chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, a member of the National Campaign Cabinet of the United Jewish Appeal and active in various other national Jewish organizations. One of San Francisco’s outstanding communal leaders, he was a past president of the San Francisco Jewish Welfare Fund and for four years the president of the San Francisco Jewish Welfare Federation. In 1950 and 1955 he headed delegations of San Franciscan Jewish leaders to Israel. He was a lieutenant of infantry in World War I and a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force during World War II.
