National President Ann Panteleakos visited Florida last weekend. Florida Department President Louise Koser and several Auxiliary members greeted her at the airport. They headed to the recently opened Gainesville Fischer House for a tour. Following the tour, they headed to the VFW Veterans Village in Fort McCoy. Director Al Lugo rolled out the red carpet for President Ann. She received a proclamation and enjoyed dinner and socializing with residents and VFW and Auxiliary members that were there, including VFW National Council Member Daniel P. “Dan” Duffy and Ladies Auxiliary National District Council Member Kathy Roman. The next morning, President Ann was able to drive the tractor at Veterans Village and she and Department President Koser laid a brick in the memorial walk. President Ann enjoyed her time at the Veterans Village and wants to thank Al Lugo and the staff for going above and beyond the call of duty to make her feel welcome there. Following her visit to the Veterans Village, they surprised the owner of Glitter Alley, a locally owned boutique, with a plaque thanking the store for their support of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. The store owner was truly honored to meet both President Ann and Department President Louise. They then headed to the Liberty Bell Memorial Museum for a tour and presented the caretaker with both an American Flag and a POW/MIA Flag. The VFW Riders served as escorts to lunch at Post and Auxiliary 4206. There were many members there including Veterans and Family Support Ambassador and Florida Department Secretary Leona McDermott; Southern Conference Scholarship Chairman Lee Harris; Department Senior-Vice Commander Amber Putnam representing Department Commander Talmadge W. Markham; and Past Commander-in-Chief John M. Carney (1992-1993). She was pleasantly surprised to see Connecticut Past Department Commander Tom Deere there; he recently moved to the area. Post and Auxiliary 10131 hosted dinner and Cape Canaveral Mayor Rocky Randels presented President Ann with a proclamation. The next morning, Post and Auxiliary 4643 hosted breakfast where she was presented with another proclamation from the City of Satellite Beach. Following breakfast, they headed to Cape Canaveral and spent the day touring the Kennedy Space Center. She enjoyed her time in the Sunshine State! Thanks for hosting, Florida! #LAVFWPP
