~Natural Remedies~ Herbal tea is a natural remedy with both preventive and curative benefits. The use of herbal tea is the result of thousands of years of human experience. Today they are used to help treat mild diseases and to keep healthy. Herbal tea can be tonic, relaxing and digestive. It is obtained through decoction; a method whereby the healing properties of the herbs, plants and spices are obtained by brewing them into boiling water for 10 to 20 minutes. The liquid is filtered before being consumed. Yogi Tamby gave a list of herbal teas to relieve small daily troubles: 1) For flu (sore throat, sneezing, coughing and feverish) • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder • 1 teaspoon dried tea leaves • 2 cloves • 4 cardamom pods • 1 cinnamon stick • A piece of ginger • A bunch of fresh thyme Bring to a boil in 1L of water for 15 minutes. Strain and consume warm the whole day. 2) Migraine (Compared to a headache, a migraine is unbearable where a sharp pain can be felt in the head. The whole body is usually crippled with a migraine) • A piece of fresh turmeric • A bunch thyme • 4 cardamom pods Bring to a boil in 1L of water. Consume for 4 consecutive days. 3) Blocked nose • 4 cardamom pods • A bunch of thyme • A bunch of coriander leave • A piece of ginger Bring all to a boil in 1L of water and consume throughout the day. Or • A few dried turmeric pieces • A piece of cloth • Charcoal pieces Tie the turmeric pieces in the cloth. Burn it in the charcoal and breathe in the smoke. It is a good remedy for a heavy blocked nose. 4) Headache • Coriander leaves • Aloe vera (only the gel) Crush the coriander leaves. Add the gel and crush again till you get a fine paste. Eat before your meals. 5) Insomnia: • 1 teaspoon anise seeds • 4 cardamom pods • 1 bunch of thyme Bring to a boil in 2 glasses of water for 10 minutes. Drink before going to sleep. 6) Stomach troubles • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds • 1 tablespoon anise seeds • 4 star anise • 4 ayapana leaves Bring to a boil in 1L of water and consume the whole day 7) Weakness after a severe flu • Fresh turmeric • 8 Ayapana leaves • A piece of ginger • Mint leaves Bring to a boil in 1L of soya milk for 15 minutes. Add sugar to taste and consume.
