New book I am writing, End of the Adamson Couple I was working the open house at the outrigger canoe club by the pier in Santa Barbara when she walked up for a free lesson. She was dressed in white shorts and a floral top, a bit overweight but looked fit enough for the activity, she signed the standard release, gave all 6 of them the basic shore instruction. She looked strong so I put her in seat 6 right in front of me steering on the deck(I hated deck steering). The crew seemed unlikely to flip the boat after our harbor tour under mild conditions so I took them out to the entrance bouy to watch the harbor seals dive in and in circle the canoe. We got back and beached the canoe and I asked her "how did you like it?" She replied "I love it" with a child like wonder in her eyes. I fell in love...
