New development works are under way for the otter enclosure. We have a wonderful group of otters Ella, Bruce, Willis and Jane and they are an extremely active and inquisitive bunch so we wanted to add something new. Asian Otters spend more time on land than in water and the development of the island in the centre of their pool will create lots of crevices for building dens, some good high points as they like to stand tall and get a good view, plus it will be a fantastic play area. The island has been designed and is being created by Jason Skitterall of Koda Creative. Jason has worked in zoos and wildlife parks around the world including The Netherlands, Gibralter and the Caribbean to create rock facades and trees. It is quite remarkable how realist Jason’s work is - the otters will have exactly the kind of habitat suited to them. We are very fortunate to have Jason living so close to us in Cornwall and to benefit from his work in creating amazing enclosures for parrots, monkeys, tamarinds, marmosets and even a kind of rat called a Gundi. The work is expected to be completed by the end of January. As many of you will know when you sit along the window side of the Otter Pool Cafe, you can see the otters enclosure and will be able to watch them exploring their new island.
