New ministers takes charge of their new offices Special Correspondent Dhaka, Nov 24: Seven days after taking their oath, the eight new ministers and state ministers have taken up their new assignments in their respective ministries and the divisions on Sunday. The new ministers and the state ministers started arriving at the Secretariat after 9 am to take charge of their new offices. The secretaries and other employees of the ministries welcomed their new ministers and the state ministers when they arrived at their respective ministries. At the same time, employees of some ministries also bade farewell to their former ministers. Officials and employees of the land ministry gave farewell to former land minister Rejaul Karim Hira and its former state minister Mostafizur Rahman Fizar. After the reception from their employees, all the new ministers met officials of their respective ministries, taking briefs on their works. Land minister Amir Hossain Amu told reporters that the dialogue would be held if the opposition BNP responds to the invitation extended by Prime Minister’s Sheikh Hasina in this regard. The invitation is still on. Amu, a member of the Awami League Presidium added. Replying to a question, the land minister said, the upcoming election must be held within the scheduled time and none can foil the holding of it. Industries and works minister Tofail Ahmed was optimistic that the opposition BNP will attend the upcoming general election. “No party can go to power by killing people and destroying public property. I think the BNP has realized it and they will participate in the elections,” the senior AL told reporters at his secretariat office. “The door for the dialogue is open. We have taken initiative for talks with the opposition BNP so that we want to hold the election with participation of all party,” the works minister added. “We will never take any policy decision. We will do our routine tasks only,” he explained about the poll-time government. Talking to the reporters, posts and telecommunications minister Rashed Khan Menon informed that they have initiated positive changes with the talks between the Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and the BNP’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakrul Islam on Saturday night. “We are hopeful that we will be able to reach our target,” he said adding that “there is no alternative to hold the parliamentary elections by January 24.We are working on it,” the left leader told the reporters. Health and Family Welfare minister Rowshan Ershad.MP from the Jatiya Party also said, she will carryout her official duties along with the election campaigns. “I don’t want to stay long in the ministry. I will stay only until holding of the election,” she added. Meanwhile, the cabinet division, by issuing a circular on Sunday, asked the former ministers and the state ministers to leave their official residences by December 1.
