New research confirms that the world is warming, and that the past decade was the hottest ever since temperature measurements began. The esteemed World Meteorological Organisation says that nearly 94% of reporting countries had their warmest decade in 2001-2010. They also warn that our oceans are increasingly absorbing both carbon dioxide and heat, a finding supported by more new research demonstrating how deep oceans have been heating up rapidly in recent years. Continued warming has resulted in melting ice at the poles and in glacial regions, coupled with sea levels rising roughly twice as fast during the past decade than the long-term average of the 20th century.
