New write-up & review! (The Rock Alternative, Apr 2014) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Enter: The Sunpilots, hailing from Sydney, Australia. This independent rock band is shaking the ground beneath us with their epic guitar riffs & lyrics that remind rockers why they turned to rock music in the first place. The Sunpilots run their own record label & are being managed by their front man Raj Siva-Rajah. Why do you care? Well, it means they’re not forced into making their music commercial. So much so that their album “King of the Sugarcoated Tongues” is available for free download on the band’s website. The band has been described as a “Zepplin-meets-Radiohead progressive rock”. While we see how that description fits, the band’s musical storytelling reminds us of Coheed and Cambria. The instrumental masterpieces by The Sunpilots also remind us of great English rockers, Muse. The vocals are a little harder to place as the lead singer Raj Siva-Rajah has such a unique voice influenced by his Sri-Lankan heritage.
