@News: Flood hits 30,000 in Dhemaji DHEMAJI,Assam has been hit by floods with 25 villages in flood-prone Dhemaji district inundated today, official sources said, reports PTI. The situation, it is feared, could deteriorate with the water level of Jiadhol river, a tributary of Brahmaputra, rising alarmingly following heavy rainfall in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh. The flood water has inundated 25 villages under Noruathan and Ghughua circles in west Dhemaji affecting more than 30,000 people, the sources said adding the residents have left their homes and taken shelter in the highlands. Our Morigaon Correspondent adds: Erosion by the Brahmaputra in Sutipar village under Bhuragaon revenue circle in Morigaon district took a grim turn during the last three days rendering 50 families of the area homeless. The affected people have taken shelter on the embankment of the Brahmaputra. Meanwhile, heavy erosion by the Brahmaputra is going on in riverine Baralimari and Barunguri areas under Bhuragaon revenue circle threatening the crop land and human habitation.
