Nine is the number, nine is the charm. I kind of like this game, and Ill try to be novel. 1. I really love advent calendars. I had one most years as a kid, and I love knowing that there is a tiny sweet surprise hidden for me at the end of the day. I bought one today for the first time in years. I cant wait. 2. Nautical fiction is one of my favorite genres. I have spent a combined maybe ten hours on boats in my whole life, but secretly I am a pirate and have always been a pirate. 3. The first time I wrote something I knew was really good was in seventh grade. It was a piece on the origin of the term scrubs as a pejorative for underclassmen. It had a snappy conclusion and got really great response. It was an important moment for me. 4. I prefer chocolate with nuts, if its at all possible. I hate it with cinnamon or mint. 5. I think some superstitions are stupid, but others are sacrosanct. I cross my fingers while going over railroad tracks and throw salt over my shoulder, but I never worry about breaking a mirror. 6. I used to have a little Casio keyboard that I loved intensely and played all the time. One time I picked out the chords to Music of the Night, but I didnt recognize it and thought I had written it. 7. Im terrified of crabs. 8. The first album I ever owned was MJs Dangerous on cassette tape. I won my Walkman in a jog-a-thon and those two things together made me feel very cool indeed. First album I had on CD was Pink Floyds The Wall, a gift from my sister Melanie McKinney. 9. I want to live outside the U.S. again. John Elison and I are talking about spending a year or two in Argentina.
