No matter what side of the debate you land on Syria The President - TopicsExpress

No matter what side of the debate you land on Syria The President made a wise and completely correct decision not to follow in the Reagan, Meese, and Cheney belief that you can strike without any Congressional approval and ignore any laws when it comes to the military and to instead follow what he has long said that this decision barring an immediate threat is to be made by Congress. Even if Congress says no and I do not agree with that I will support that decision. We have a Constitution for a reason and there is a very explicit rule in it regrading force and the power to use. Reagan illegally invade Grenada and illegally sent arms to Iran and got a free pass on this but it should not be forgotten. He did this on the advice of Edwin Meese his AG who said he had the power to do whatever he damned well pleased when it came to military actions and arm sales. Cheney advocated that both Iraq wars did not need Congressional approval. When there were doubts about the second Iraq War he went to Congress and lied. That has to end. The President did the right thing and he should be applauded for that no matter what side of the issue you land on.
