Non-Kashmir labourers arrested for ‘stone-pelting’ Anantnag, July 23: Police have arrested two non-Kashmiri labourers in Anantnag for their alleged involvement in stone-peltingduring last week’s protests against civilian killings in Ramban district. Police sources said Mohammad Afzal from Uttar Pradesh and Mohammad Ibrahim from West Bengal, both in their early twenties and working as labourers, were found to be a part of stone-throwing youth protesting against the desecration of Holy Quran and civilian killings by BSF men in Gool area of Ramban on July 18. “We were provided the video footage of the protests by some of our informers. After analyzing the footage, we were able toidentify the two non Kashmirilabourers and many others,”said a senior police official. He said the two non-Kashmirilabourers have been bookedunder FIR No 232-2013 under sections 147, 148, 332. This is the first incident in over twenty years of conflictin Kashmir that a non-Kashmiri has been arrested for participating in protests and pelting stones on police. Every year more than a few lakh skilled and unskilled labourers come to Kashmir from different parts of India particularly Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, to earn their livelihood. #EI
