Now I keep seeing headlines saying it is terrible that Obama is closing the Vatican embassy. He is not closing it; he is moving it to a larger building closer to the Vatican with better security. (Nobody’s Vatican embassy is actually in the Vatican – you can’t fit them onto a postage stamp.) If we insist on letting such spin substitute for political discussion, then I hope we never find out that the Vatican operates the Vatican Observatory in Arizona, and it has an astronomical infrared instrument there called LUCIFER. (Large binocular telescope near infrared Utility with Camera and Integral Field unit for Extra galactic Research – if they had named me that, I would call myself Lucifer too.)
