Now here comes the biggest confusion and question in the minds of Doctors having rank between 3500 – 6000 in NEET- PG. Whether to go for NON-CLINICAL / PARA-CLINICAL DEGREE courses or opt for Diploma Courses. Remember, In your life Atleast one of your degree should be a MASTER’s Degree. Before 2010 , Everyone advised to opt for NON-Clinical / Para-clinical Degree courses rather than chosing diploma courses. This advice was given because of the abundant vacancies and staff requirement in private medical colleges with lucrative salary packages. But right now all private college vacancies are over and it is nearing 100% saturation , which means you have to get back to your clinical stuff to survive. So Either you have to go for DNB clinical courses after completing MD Non Clinical subjects or end up in taking Diploma clinical courses after completing MD Non-Clinicals. Many of my friends are now getting ready for taking DNB clinical course after completing NON-Clincal Degree Courses. So taking a NON-CLINICAL degree just because it is a master’s degree is not a wise decision and at the same time , if you are opting for Diploma clinical courses you have two options 1. Sit for another entrance preparation and get into Masters 2. Go for Post Diploma DNB courses . But If you chose the second option , you will be living a life without any MASTER’s DEGREE behind your name. Going by the current trend , Two Non- Clinical/ Para Clinicals degrees ( MD PATH & MD Pharm ) are relatively safe when compared to other NON-CLINICAL/ PARA- CLINICAL DEGREES. Though I am a Non- Clinical Post Graduate MD Pharm , I will never recommend NON- CLINICAL Degrees to my fellow doctors , because it is getting relatively very unsafe for getting settled in LIFE. It is always better to trust your patients rather than trusting the private sector. Remember you don’t have JOB guarantee in private medical colleges. Anytime they can chuck you out. So , Always to be on safer hands , please try as much as possible in the clinical field. If you are very much interested in research , go for a NON-CLINICAl DEGREE and fly to abroad after completing your post graduation If I were in your ranks , My choice would be as follows 1. MD ANAES /MS OPH / MD Path 2. MD SPM / MS ENT / MS GEN SUR 3. Dip in Child Health 4. Dip in Ortho / Dip in OBG 5. Dip in Anaes 6. Dip In Diab 7. MD Pharm + some certificate Clinical courses The other diploma degrees like dip in OPH , DLO , and DDVL and other NON- CLINICAL DEGREE COURSES are not worth taking for the current scenario . So before taking a lifetime decision consult twice or thrice with your seniors who have completed the degree. with regards Dr D Arun Kumar MD Pharm
