Now, my expertise on HIV is about 12 minutes worth of Googling, but I hear that the virus cannot survive being outside of a human body (at the levels found in bodily fluids) for more than a few minutes. I have also recently heard of doctors trying a technique of placing mortally wounded humans into a state of suspended hibernation by rapidly draining their blood and replacing it with a cold saline solution for a number of hours before refilling the circulatory system with blood and the patient making a decent recovery without brain damage (tests on dogs and pigs being 9/10 successful). The human body holds 5.5L of blood. A donor generally gives just under 500ml of blood, so 11 or 12 donors could fully replace someones blood. Say you drain a HIV+ persons blood from their system and replace it with saline solution, then either refill their body with the blood that has been exposed to the air long enough to kill the virus, or rally 11 people from a uni classroom to donate blood for $50 each and refill the patients body with clean blood... Yo, I just cured AIDS, people.
