Now that everyone that needs to know knows...here goes: After exactly 22 years & approximately 2 months of hoisting a TV camera onto my shoulder and running around Texas, Louisiana, many other states, the District of Columbia, Ukraine & Russia to record whatever happens, I am finally done. Im finally putting the TV camera down. Im going back to the House of Representatives; this time as a full time employee in the video dept. doing the same thing I did 3 years ago in 2011....just in time for the Legislature to start in 2015. Im so excited, I cant even stand it! I wouldnt be the person I am today without family and the 100s, if not a couple thousand great friends I made at TV stations over the past 22 years, almost all of them lifelong friends. But most importantly I met Erin , my best friend, while covering all that news. Shes the one that encouraged me to be patient while trying to find a career path that I wanted out of the news biz and I love her for it. Shes the greatest wife EVER! Yes Ill miss TV news: the comraderie of working (and laughing) as a team with a reporter to tell a story, talking to famous, infamous & interesting people. Or getting that one, single shot that maybe makes just one viewer understand the whole thing a little bit better. Ill miss the access-always going somewhere to record part of history; which most people think is SOOO glamorous, but its still just work at the time. But then later you realize: Hey! I was there when... & ...I interviewed him or her.... And now for the things I wont miss... ...well, Im saving those for later. My FB feed wont be quite as full of different things after Dec 5th, so Ill spread those things out over time...youll see. And it wont all be the bad things, I promise...kinda! Stay tuned...
