OBIT for my Dad for those that wont see it in the Daily Local News: Paul “Pops” J. Dukes, Jr. of West Chester Paul Jewell Dukes, Jr., 85, of West Chester, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Marie B. Dukes, with whom he had shared 57 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2012. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Paul J. and Evelyn Dowler Dukes. He was a 1947 graduate of Haverford High School, graduated from Pierce School in Business Administration and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Paul was employed as an adjuster with Aetna Life and Casualty Co. for approximately 25 years, retiring at the age of 50. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, helping others through volunteering at Chester County Hospital and a strong faith as well as being a bit of an instigator with the grandchildren. They will miss “Pops” so much. Paul was instrumental in helping establish the Pennsylvania Home of the Sparrow with a neighbor and his wife, Marie. Founded in 1994 and flourishes today. Paul was appointed to the Advisory Council Area Aging Department and later became Chairman. He was very interested in Medicare and the problems people face where Medicare is involved. Retirement meant the TINKERER began. Fixing clocks and helping others. And it became more about meeting people. He then volunteered to install Life Lines for those elderly that needed it at their home. Again it was also about meeting more folks and feeling needed. He was a member of Saint Francis- in- the- Fields in Sugartown (Malvern), PA. Paul Dukes is survived by his daughter, Nancy Dukes Levchak (Michael) of Tomball, TX; and son, William D. Dukes (Maureen) of Glenmoore, PA; grandchildren, Michelle Koch Whitaker (Keith), Ashley Koch Thompson (Jeffrey), Evan Gottlieb Koch (Siobhan), Eric Michael Dukes, Andrew David Dukes and Jessica Nichole Dukes and Great Granddaughters Hailey Michelle Thompson and Hannah Marie Whitaker. A graveside service will be held immediately following the 8 a.m. Eucharist on Sunday, September 7th, at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church Cemetery, 689 Sugartown Road, Malvern, PA.
