He documents his 10 year transformation from running one of the largest gangs in South Carolina history to working with SPIKE LEE. COLORS: Bangin’ in South Carolina details the deadliest gang feud in the history of Columbia, South Carolina. A feud inherited from Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles that has lasted over 15 years turning even the suburbs into a warzone. The movie offers never before seen footage of gangs, active gang member testimonials, and interviews with the newly formed police agencies that were made to stop them. It’s more than just your normal urban gang documentary it’s a story about connections between those rejected by mainstream society. The story primarily follows filmmaker, Terrence Davis. He was formerly the leader of the largest Crip gang in South Carolina history by the time he was 17 years old. After losing so many friends to either Death or Prison, Terrence realized it was time for a change. So he decided to get a college degree in mass communications. He was accepted to film school in New York City (NYIT) and has been working on movies ever since. In 2014, he returned to his hometown in South Carolina and opened up a vocational film school called the South Carolina Film Institute. Other characters in the documentary include: “Dirt”, a 22-year-old Blood, who was shot and now lives his life in a wheelchair. He has been incarcerated over 9 times. He doesn’t want to go to college yet or cool down, he wants to gang bang. He doesn’t want you to feel sorry for him he wants you to know he has a choice and that’s his choice, Blood for life. “Ghost”, a 23-year-old Crip, tells his story about gaining respect growing up in the suburbs. His peers picked on him and assaulted him because of his address which led him to join a gang. He gives a vivid recollection of being 13 years old and shooting somebody for the first time. “Slim OG”, a 27-year-old , formerly the leader of the “The Black Gangster Disciples” with Slim recounts his life at the top of the game until a near death experience changed his life forever. “OG Heyward”, a 30-year-old Crip Leader, he talks about things he witnessed that led him into ganglife, such as witnessing the murder of his older cousin by some bloods at 13 years old. Every year since 2001, South Carolina has been ranked 1st in violent crime (U.S. Census, FBI.Gov), 5th in murder (CQ Press,2009) and ranked as the 3rd Most Dangerous State (CQ Press, 2009).
