OGUN TO ESTABLISH RICE PROCESSING FACTORY NEXT YEAR In furtherance of its determination to boost its economic base, the Ogun State Government is to establish a rice processing factory in Eggua, Yewa North local Government Area of the State in the first quarter of next year. When established, the factory would complement the 100-hectares rice plantation which the government is already cultivating in the area. Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun made this known while flagging-off the planting of 20 hectares of Nerica 8” – New Rice for African 8, the major input for the proposed processing factory. According to Sokefun, the factory will process and package large volume of rice for both consumption and industrial use in the State, the South-West and beyond, adding that it would also provide gainful employment for teeming youths desirous of contributing their quota to the “Mission to rebuild the State”. She however appealed to Fulani herdsmen in the area not to allow their animals stray into the project site, warning that the State government would not fold its arms and watch its efforts on agricultural and industrial development go down the drain in the name of cattle grazing. Speaking on the proposed project, the Eleggua of Eggualand, Oba Adeleye Dosumu, expressed happiness and commended the State government for its foresight and decision to site the project in his domain. The monarch assured government of the readiness of his subject to key into the various developmental projects embarked upon by the State government, promising to help provide adequate security at the project site.
