OH SNAP! Today is my last day in my twenties! This means I have less than 24 hours to do all the cliché things things twenty-something year olds do, such as: - ask my parents for money - complain about my body image while munching on a bag of Doritos - date a guy I dont entirely like because he is good looking or really really nice - trash my room and bask in it - watch a Jersey Shore marathon - forget to text/call my mom - wonder what I want to be when I grow-up - and many more..... Hehe. Just kidding! This last decade has been incredible and I wouldnt change a thing! Ah yes, I recall fondly when I entered my twenties.... blonde-haired and wistfully assuming I would one day become an orthodontist. We all know how that turned out! I think the thing that stands out the most to me about my twenties is that its the choices I made, rather than events that befell me, that shaped me the most. After graduating from ASU, I picked up and left for Tahoe with no idea what the future held for me. Little did I know my greatest life lessons awaited. I started and failed two businesses (who remembers Mooseknuckle and Pickled Apparel?!) which taught me so much about success in failure. Fearing failure is futile because it is your greatest teacher. And, in my honest opinion, worth more than a college degree as it requires taking real action with real consequences/rewards. My late twenties marks the time in my life in which I decided to finally take action towards doing the things I kept SAYING I wanted to do, but never seemed to manifest. I stopped making excuses (A few favorites: I dont have enough money/time, Im not talented enough) and just did things before I had a chance to let my head get in the way. I traveled to nine countries. Ran my first half-marathon. Lived abroad. Got published for the first time. Quit drinking. And, of course, started The Tahoe Journal, my latest entrepreneurial bundle of joy! But the thing that I am most thankful for is the amazing people in my life. I have been blessed with the most incredible, inspiring, supportive group of friends and family anyone could ask for. Through all the things Ive done and places Ive lived and traveled to, Ive come to realize theres one thing you cant replace, and that is your friends and family. Home wouldnt be home without them, or my quality of life as great as it is. If theres one thing I did right in my twenties is that I made all the right choices when it came to the people I chose to surround myself with, and for that I am most proud! So CHEERS everyone! Cheers to entering the prime of our lives! Cheers to more milestones, obstacles, and personal growth. And last but not least, cheers to me finally getting this long-winded post finished with so I can finally go grocery shopping one last time in my twenties! CHEERS!!
