OK, heres a question for my writer and editor friends, to see where you all stand on this issue: Alphabetizing a list can be a bit of a pain when dealing with celebrity names. Billy Joel is an easy one since its a persons name: Joel, Billy. And Jefferson Starship remains Jefferson Starship since its a band name, not a person. But when it comes to a stage name, like Boy George, things become a bit trickier. You could say George, Boy, to be consistent with all the other individual names--but that implies George is his last name, which it isnt. You could keep it Boy George since its a stage name--but that might seem inconsistent and annoying to the more OCD-afflicted. Ringo Starr would seem to be an obvious one: Starr, Ringo--except thats not his real name either. But listing three Beatles last name first and one first name first would just seem wrong. So... how do YOU alphabetize stage names?
