OK, this is probably a systemwide problem nationwide among AISES members in particular but all of us educated Injuns in general. But Albuquerque being what it is, the racist shithole capital of even Indian Country - well maybe not in and of itself because I got hit with this one quite a bit even in Santa Fe (not FROM the School for the Deaf because the Deaf dont say things like this) how do you deal with the daily onslaught of insults against us as a race - cracks like just a bunch of drunk Injuns every time I mention Gallup (as being the ONLY place in this state which actually WANTS Native Americans to come out there and teach Math and Science...by that I mean with no one out there saying whatd YOU come HERE for when you get there in that derogatory way) and the implication that you look stupid, too stupid for Math or Science, just because youre an Indian. Dammit I know Im not the only one out here who gets hit with these things...especially spending about half my time out in Gallup on the weekends just to clear my head. I tell people its because I keep the car registered out there but thats not all of it. I go out there to get away from bat-crap-racist awful Albuquerque. Dont mind me, Im just kvetching again - recently had a dorm-mate use that just a bunch of drunk Injuns crack (and then hell-bent on treating ME like Im NOT Choctaw and must be lying about that).
