OLD BLUE MOUNTAIN FIRE UPDATE FOR 8/21 AT 6:30 AM There has been no new information since last night on the fire...so that is GREAT news. Means all is well and no set backs at all. Looks like if they keep this up containment will likely be reached Friday night. Here is the last information we had. The level 1 evacuation notice for the Humbug Creek drainage was dropped last night at 6 pm. A terrific bit of news indicating how well things are going. The roadblock near the 4 mile marker on the right fork of Foots Creek Rd remains in place. The Old Blue Mountain Fire is holding at 99 acres and mop-up is in full swing in all sections of the fire. My sources are telling me that they have got the fire at about 40 - 45 percent containment right now with the Foots Creek side sewn up. The Humbug Creek side is going to be more lengthy in getting good hard line in due to both access and terrain issues there. The Foots Creek side was MUCH easier for both. That is one HUGE benefit from logging activity. Not a fan of the slash left everywhere that helped promote the spread of the fire early on......but there is NO denying that the roads and other logging activity on the Foots Creek section did make it easier to get after the fire on that part of it. The fire is 100 percent lined with scratch line and has hose in place all around it to help keep the hot spots cooled. Fire fighters remain watchful for spot fires outside fire lines. The helicopters worked yesterday afternoon to help keep the hot spots nearest the lines cooled off. All in all though, very quiet out there. I think we have seen the very worst from this fire. Just need to finish getting it secured and putting out all hot spots within 300 feet of the perimeter.
