OPINION POLL REPORT Elections are one of the pertinent issues to comrades. The feeling of making such an important decision is at the heart of each and every individual. The aim of the poll was to find the predictable voting trends while seeking comrades’ preferred candidates in the different dockets. The survey was done through administration of structured questionnaires to a systematically sampled population of 300 respondents as a representation of the possible 5000+ or – voters. The population was stratified into 3 segments of the university; SOWETO, LOWER HOSTELS(K,L & M), and “THE HOUSES & STAGE”. The questionnaire captured different aspects such as Year of Study, and Gender, performance evaluation and the distinct dockets. For Categorical variables frequencies and percentages were recorded. Subsequently, analysis was done out of the data with statistical analysis package SPSS Version 17.0. N/B 1: A significant 48% of the respondents willing to take part in the survey were second years, an indication that they might possibly form the majority voter turn out come Friday 22nd. 2. Forth year students formed 14% of the respondents willing to partake in the exercise thus an indication of their possible turn out on the exact poll day. 3. 57.7 % of the males took part in the survey, compared to 40.7&% of the female counterparts, thus a proof of male dominant participation in the political process. 4. An overwhelming portion of comrades felt that the outgoing Student Governing Council had not met their expectation. Out of a Scale of Excellent-Good-Average-Fair-Poor; 46% rated their performance on the “”fair index and 36% rated them poorly. 5. UNDECIDED Voters formed a large percentage. Perhaps this would change after the 2nd Crossfire and Final Kamukunji as well as with the continued aspirant’s campaign efforts. 6. Students from the school of Business and Economics; at KIPs plaza and Annex were not include in the study. This is one huge population whose figures would also possibly change the current statistics. 7. A comprehensive analysis, exhibiting candidate’s popularity per Hostel Segment as well as School/faculty was also done. This is part of the details that will be posted on the 3rd Eye Website: mupconline An opinion Poll to be conducted later this evening (after the 2nd Cross Fire) will be seeking answers to possible changes in trends and voting patterns.
