OVER 100 DIE AS BOKO HARAM ATTEMPTS ANOTHER ATTACK IN MAIDUGURI Over 100 Die As Boko Haram Attempts Another Attack In Maiduguri Kareem Haruna — March 16, 2014 Having suffered a major casualty figure in the Friday morning attack on Army barracks and residents around the neighbourhood of Fori suburb of Maiduguri, regrouped Boko Haram terrorists had suffered yet another major loss of members in another attack that was foiled by the military yesterday, eyewitnesses and security sources said. An update on casualty figure recorded in the Friday offensive saw death toll on the part of the Boko Haram rising to over 300 while others insurgents were captured by the members of the emboldened youth vigilante called Civilian-JTF. Eyewitnesses around Alau and Fori villages located at the outskirts of Maiduguri said the heavy gun shootings that echoed all over the city of Maiduguri at about 9am was as a result of the heavy shootout between the army and member of the Boko Haram terrorist. LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered from reliable sources that some of the dispersed members of the Boko Haram had in anger over the colossal defeat they suffered on Friday, vent their angst on villagers in Kayamla whom they accused of leaking information to security operatives in Maiduguri about their planned attack. It was gathered that the attacking Boko Haram had an overnight attack in the said villages, where they warned the villagers that they would not harm them once they kept mute about their presence there and their mission in Maiduguri. Yesterday’s repeat attack was met with fierce repulsion from the well alerted soldiers, who spent the entire Friday night on vigil and continuous shooting into the air. “Almost all of them were crushed this time around, as our men did not give them another chance to inch near the barracks or Maiduguri neighbourhood”, said a soldier. LEADERSHIP Sunday was also informed that some members of the Boko Haram, in what appeared like an angered revenge on the defeat they so suffered in Maiduguri on Friday, attacked five commercial vehicles heading from Biu to Maiduguri and killed over 20 passengers, while destroying all of the five vehicles. A commercial cab driver who usually ply the Biu-Maiduguri highway told reporters the incident happened “just few hours from Biu they saw people making a U-turn and they had to join since they were shouting that Boko Haram was on the highway.”
